Citizens driven energy transition
The Commission supports the Central Denmark Region in strengthening 19 municipalities’ capacity to translate the national ambition into local climate actions plans and investment projects supported by the local community, citizens and stakeholders. The TSI project also aims to disseminate best practices in Denmark and across other Member States.
Context
The Commission supports Denmark in its ambitious climate target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 70% by 2030.
The project will expand to Danish municipalities due to the successful outcome of the multiple prize winning pilot community of Samsø. In 2007, the island of Samsø (DK), became 100% energy self-sufficient based on wind, solar and biomass energy by way of local ownership of all renewable energy investments
Support to be delivered
The project will focus on building the capacity of 19 municipalities to translate climate targets into realistic local investments.
This action will strengthen both the technical capacity on local climate planning and climate audits.
Furthermore, municipality representatives will obtain training and support for an effective community engagement process in energy development.
Results to be achieved
This initiative is supported by the community and will contribute to a much better local economy and accelerate the transition towards carbon neutrality.
The project also aims at exchanging experience and expertise at European level.
