Improving the sustainability performance of state buildings
This project aims to enhance the sustainability and energy efficiency of state buildings in France and the Netherlands. In particular, the work will draw on a wide benchmarking of good practices in EU bodies in charge of state buildings, the results of which will be widely disseminated.
Context
France and the Netherlands need to reduce the energy consumption and improve sustainability of their state buildings to contribute to their climate goals, fulfil EU obligations related to the energy renovation of public buildings, and lead by example for wider building renovation. State buildings represent 12 million m2 in the Netherlands and 70 million m2 in France. Both countries have developed roadmaps for improving the energy performance of State buildings, but these roadmaps need to be updated to reflect increased levels of ambition for energy efficiency of buildings at EU level, as well as the rapid evolution of technologies and solutions, drawing on good practices from other European countries.
Support delivered
The project will produce the following:
- Report on benchmarking the energy transition of State buildings in European countries
- In-depth analysis of the good practices and challenges from selected European countries
- A report and conference for dissemination of good practices to European countries
- Specific support for France and the Netherlands to update their roadmaps for improving the energy and sustainability of State buildings
The project will carry out desk research, surveys with key stakeholders, interviews and workshops to share practices among practitioners
The results will be disseminated to EU Member States through several dedicated events and summary reports.
Results achieved
The project is expected to support the energy renovation and sustainability of State buildings in France and the Netherlands, as well as the dissemination of information among EU Member States on the good practices on these topics. More specifically, it is expected to lead to:
- Improved understanding and knowledge sharing among EU Member States on the energy renovation of State buildings.
- New French roadmap 2025-2050 for the energy renovation of State buildings
- Updated Dutch roadmap for State buildings and updated energy standards.
