Supporting reforms to transition to a green economy and fight climate change
Facilitating renewable energy deployment in the electricity sector of Slovenia
The European Commission provided support to the Slovenian Ministry of Infrastructure and the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning. It aimed to address the barriers to renewable energy deployment in Slovenia, thereby facilitating a more ambitious national energy and climate plan (NECP).
Support delivered
Support was delivered in three phases:
- An analysis of potential renewable energy deployment, with consideration for the many protected areas and species in Slovenia
- An overview of legal and administrative barriers to renewable energy deployment
- Capacity building activities for Slovenian authorities to facilitate renewable energy deployment
Results achieved
Following DG REFORM’s support, Slovenia adopted the Act on the deployment of installations for the generation of electricity from renewable energy sources. In 2023, Slovenia increased its renewable energy ambitions in its updated NECP.
